Position Responsibilities: Consumer & Shopper Insights Senior Manager
PURPOSE OF ROLE
Build Foster’s capabilities to become the leader in consumer and shopper insights in the wine industry
DIRECT REPORTS
• Consumer & Shopper Insights Manager
• Consumer & Shopper Insights Associate Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Lead development of Foster’s approach/model to understand wine consumers’ entire “Path-to-Purchase” journey; pre, during and post buying experience
• Develop, plan and execute Foster’s Americas consumer/shopper research agenda/priorities
• Develop and execute strategy to position and leverage Foster’s proprietary on-line wine community (360 Wine Dialogues) as the industry-leading wine research panel with our on- and off-premise gatekeepers
• Develop on-going and quarterly market and category trend tracking and communication tools
• Build and manage team to proactively and effectively generate category insights, develop recommendations for our priority gatekeepers, and support and identify opportunities for Brand and Innovation teams
• Build capability across the organization to incorporate consumer/shopper learnings into key decision making in marketing and sales
• Create management presentations to communicate research findings and develop recommendations to influence points of view to drive business decisions
• Manage bi-annual fielding and summary of Foster’s proprietary consumer survey (FACT)
• Improve brand health measurement reporting to integrate multiple consumer data collection points, eg Nielsen HomeScan, Spectra, FACT, Direct/Clubs and secondary research
• Provide consultative support to Brand Marketing team to plan, design, and execute custom primary research, ie positioning, naming, packaging, etc
• Provide thought leadership to Global Insights and Innovation teams on global research priorities and actively share and seek best practices
• Manage vendor/supplier relationships to conduct research
• Create a highly motivated, inspired team environment
• Coach and develop direct reports to build world-class insights capabilities and contribute to Foster’s talent pipeline
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Strong leadership skills; identify opportunities and articulate a vision, align stakeholders, drive change, communicate clearly, measure and report on progress, adapt as required
• Ability to generate value-added insights from primary and secondary research to enable and influence strategic and tactical decision-making
• Ability to present complex data clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences and levels, including senior management, Marketing, and Sales (field and corporate)
• Self-starter who takes the initiative to identify issues, suggests approaches to develop solutions and leads and manages completion of projects involving multiple stakeholder groups
• Strong quantitative analysis skills, including the ability to draw conclusions and form recommendations from complex data
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills
• Strong proactive communication (written, verbal) skills
• Bachelor of Business, Marketing, Economics, Statistics or equivalent required, MBA preferred
• High proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access)
• Experience conducting both small and large-scale research projects utilizing a full-range of research methodologies/techniques
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative analytics, statistical modelling tools and developing insights from primary and secondary research
• Experience managing teams of people, coaching and providing constructive feedback, and building individual development plans
• Minimum seven years experience in market research or consumer/shopper insights, with experience working with syndicated data providers (Nielsen, IRI)
• Minimum three years managing and selecting market research vendors to deliver high-quality insights on time and within budget
• Minimum two years experience in consumer research with project ownership responsibilities
• Consumer goods (CPG, Retail) experience highly desirable
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Napa Administration office environment
• Occasional travel to sales teams as needed
• 85% of time divided between meetings, presentations and desk work – will require long periods of sitting
• 15% of time in field – may require driving, walking, standing, bending and lifting

• Applying judgement to be hypothesis-driven in analysis to provide value-added analysis and insights to senior management
• Adapting communication style and level of detail for a diverse group of stakeholders
• Working cross-functionally with a team located in multiple locations
• Prioritizing heavy workload of multiple projects and tasks
• Managing expectations of multiple stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of end products
• Balance between developing tools and insights, completing analysis, and influencing internal and external stakeholders (brand, sales, distributors, on- and off-premise accounts)
